Best on Celiac/Coeliac Disease and Gluten Free Posts of the week 2 | February

February 10, 2009

There are many good people online writing about Gluten Free and health, Coeliac and Celiac disease and symptoms related to the disease.

This is one more of my weekly posts about articles I’ve been reading and I think are worth your time to read.

  • Would a ban of classroom treats be good for gluten-free kids? “A number of her (my daughter) teachers, when told about celiac disease at the beginning of the school year, went out of their way to make sure they had something special for my daughter. Or they would check with me and only buy treats for the whole class that were gluten free”
  • Dietitian Roles in Gluten-Free Education – “there are other reasons people are going gluten free, including unproven research studies showing such diets can help control autism and diabetes. Dietary guidance from a registered dietitian is imperative, because understanding ingredients takes education (malt syrup is made from barley; oats are sometimes an issue due to cross contact with other grains)”.
  • Accepting autism – Heartbreaking article about a mom with autistic son. “I was depressed and even considered trying gluten-free-casein-free diet, which other autism parents swear has done wonders with their children.”
  • Gluten-Free Lipstick: Are Your Kisses Gluten-Free? “It has been said that a women eats up to four pounds of lipstick in her lifetime,” says Kristin Adams, founder of Afterglow Cosmetics. And I would imagine that even men ingest some amount transferred via a kiss. Considering the laundry list of toxic chemicals that go into many commercial brands, this is quite a jarring fact. But what may be the most disturbing, at least to those who are gluten sensitive like you and me, is that many lipsticks and glosses may also contain gluten.

Best Regards

Paul Smith
